Indian Rupee Is Trading at 95.9100 Against US Dollar

Financial Market Overview
Indian Rupee
On Thursday, the Indian rupee was trading at 95.9100 versus the US dollar. According to recent financial reports, the Reserve Bank of India stepped into the foreign exchange market as the national currency slipped past the 96 per dollar threshold for the first time in over a month following a rate hike by the United States Federal Reserve. Market participants observed state-run financial institutions offering dollars, which indicates proactive central bank intervention to counteract persistent headwinds such as elevated global bond yields and rising oil prices. Additionally, authorities likely executed dollar-rupee sell and buy swaps for mid-tenor maturities to drain excess liquidity from the banking system, which had recently decreased due to recent tax outflows and foreign exchange market management.
Indian Equities
Indian stock market experienced a volatile trading session with benchmark indices erasing earlier gains as the afternoon progressed. The Sensex slipped marginally into the red while the Nifty managed to hold onto modest gains, supported by strong performances in the realty, pharma, and auto sectors, which all rose over one percent. Meanwhile, banking stocks faced downward pressure, dragging down the Nifty Bank index and reflecting broader caution among financial institutions. Broader markets continued to demonstrate resilience by outperforming the main benchmarks, as midcap and smallcap segments posted healthy gains alongside a noticeable drop in the India VIX. Market sentiment was further influenced by global developments, including reactions to the recent US Federal Reserve rate hike and ongoing pressures on the rupee and crude oil prices, keeping investors watchful ahead of upcoming domestic monetary policy reviews.
