Indian Rupee Is Trading at 95.02 Against US Dollar

Financial Market Overview

Indian Rupee

On Wednesday, the Indian rupee was trading at 95.0200 versus the US dollar. The Indian Rupee extended its downward trajectory against the US Dollar, driven primarily by surging global energy costs that heavily penalize import-reliant economies. This sharp depreciation has fueled market speculations regarding potential stealth interventions by the Reserve Bank of India via spot and Non-Deliverable Forward markets to stabilize the local currency. Meanwhile, broader macroeconomic sentiment remains cautious as global investors closely monitor escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East alongside impending US consumer inflation data, which is widely expected to heavily dictate the Federal Reserve's upcoming monetary policy decisions.

Indian Equities

Indian stock market will likely involve a selective recovery rather than an all-around market rally, with financial services, including insurance and capital markets, acting as the primary catalyst for headline indices as near-term management challenges resolve. While foreign investors remain cautious toward the IT sector until clear turnaround signs emerge, UBS maintains a positive outlook on consumption staples, industrials, and power, alongside monitoring emerging themes like quick commerce. Macroeconomic risks remain centered on elevated crude oil prices, which could negatively impact economic growth, while the Indian rupee is projected to stay range-bound around 96 to the dollar due to Federal Reserve rate expectations and ongoing currency dynamics.
