Indian Rupee Finished The Day at 95.2250

The Indian rupee closed at 95.225 on Wednesday in comparison to its previous closing 95.13 on Tuesday evening. The Indian Rupee is facing downward pressure against the US Dollar on Wednesday due to escalating crude oil prices and investor caution ahead of the Federal Reserve’s upcoming monetary policy decision. USD/INR pushed upward toward 95.16 as higher energy costs hit sentiment. Because India relies heavily on crude imports to meet its domestic energy demands, rising global oil prices consistently create economic headwinds for the local currency. The recent rally in oil was spurred by reports that Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi group launched a ballistic missile targeting Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura oil refinery, sparking fears of broader energy supply disruptions in the Middle East. Consequently, higher oil prices boosted 10-year US Treasury yields to 5.02%, further diminishing the appeal of risk-sensitive assets like the Rupee.

At close, the Sensex was down 352.64 points or 0.48 percent at 73,246.03, and the Nifty was down 50.90 points or 0.22 percent at 22,698.85.

About 2178 shares advanced, 1957 shares declined, and 185 shares unchanged.

Top Nifty losers were Infosys, Reliance Industries, ONGC, HCL Technologies and Bharti Airtel, while gainers were Apollo Hospitals, L&T, Trent, SBI Life Insurance and Interglobe Aviation.

Indian benchmark equity indices closed lower after experiencing significant volatility throughout the trading session. The BSE Sensex fell by 352.64 points (0.48%) to settle at 73,246.03, while the Nifty 50 slipped 50.90 points (0.22%) to finish at 22,698.85, managing to recover a substantial portion of intraday losses driven by early weakness. Market sentiment was initially weighed down by sharp losses in IT, Oil & Gas, and FMCG stocks, alongside a spike in Brent crude prices to around $115 per barrel following geopolitical developments in the Middle East. However, buying interest in key sectors like Auto, Pharma, Consumer Durables, and Banking helped offset the benchmark decline, supported by outperformance in the broader market where Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.4% and 1%, respectively. Notable individual events of the day included the debut of Jio Platforms at a 21.36% premium over its issue price, strong Q2 earnings releases from companies such as L&T and TVS Motor, and the Indian Rupee closing slightly lower at 95.23 against the US Dollar. Technical analysts highlighted that despite the volatility, the broader market structure remains consolidated within the 22,500 to 22,800 range.
