Indian Rupee Finished The Day at 95.11

The Indian rupee closed at 95.11 on Wednesday in comparison to its previous closing 94.8175 on Tuesday evening. The Indian rupee has remained restricted within a narrow band of roughly ?94.2 to ?96.9 since late May, primarily because aggressive Reserve Bank of India interventions have successfully absorbed ongoing external pressures. While soaring Brent crude prices near $100 and a wider merchandise trade deficit continue to fuel domestic dollar demand, these headwinds have been partially counterbalanced by recent foreign equity inflows. However, persistent macroeconomic vulnerabilities and potential shifts in central bank support mean that a test of the ?96.5 to ?96.9 resistance ceiling remains entirely possible. For local cryptocurrency investors, this currency corridor carries direct implications, as any upward movement in the USD/INR exchange rate automatically elevates the rupee-denominated cost of digital assets like Bitcoin even if their underlying dollar valuations stay completely flat.
Sensex closed 813.35 points or 1.08 percent lower at 74,764.23, and the Nifty was down 203.60 points or 0.86 percent at 23,431.50.
About 1,805 shares advanced, 2,382 shares declined, and 173 shares were unchanged.
Indian benchmark indices experienced a significant sell-off as the Sensex plummeted by approximately 800 points while the Nifty slipped below the crucial 23,450 mark. Market analysts attribute this steep downturn primarily to surging international crude oil prices, which have heightened inflationary fears and increased economic instability for net-importers like India. Investor sentiment remained notably cautious throughout the trading session, driven by persistent macroeconomic headwinds, foreign fund outflows, and growing geopolitical tensions that weighed heavily on major sectoral indices. Consequently, widespread liquidations wiped out considerable wealth across various equity segments, reflecting broader anxieties about near-term corporate earnings and overall market trajectory.
